Transfer Students

The new Business - Management & Leadership  major, begining fall 2023, will be able to apply knowledge of leadership and management to increase efficiency and effectiveness in accomplishing organizational goals. Flexible, online courses are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students can choose to take the program in-person on the Mount's campus or enroll in the fully online option.

Management and Leadership Career Paths

Students gain a strong ethical foundation and awareness of global and social issues in business, as graduates use their knowledge to contribute to business operations in organizations ranging from large corporations to small businesses. Future careers include:

Students seeking an advanced business degree can enroll in the liberal arts major with a Business Administration minor and follow a path to the Master in Business Administration (MBA).

MBA Pathway Curriculum

For a customized curriculum for a specific career path, the liberal arts program can be concentrated with one of the following minors:

The Behavioral Science major is customizable and can be crafted according to each student’s unique interests and career aspirations. Students will select from an array of psychology, sociology, and criminology courses and have flexible scheduling options including day, evening, blended, and online course offerings.

Behavioral Science Career Paths

Upon graduation, students may utilize their Behavioral Science degree to pursue employment as a:

• Research Assistant or Clinical Research Coordinator
• Case worker
• Correctional officer
• Probation or parole officer
• Program analysis
• Non-profit organizations
• Law enforcement
• Asset protection or loss prevention
• Welfare/social services
• Marketing research analyst (with the additional courses MKT 300 and MKT 415)
• Victims’ advocate
• Rehab counselor
• Mental health specialist
• Therapeutic service provider

Includes asynchronous (viewing instructional materials when you choose) and In*Sync (Zoom-based) classes, along with options for taking classes face-to-face.  

The Liberal Arts major combines the fundamental disciplines of English, history, religious studies, and philosophy into an engaging and flexible program that enables students to develop research, writing, presentation, and critical thinking skills. The program prepares students to enter a variety of graduate programs that will serve them well as they pursue an advanced degree.

According to a recent article in Fortune magazine, "Employer surveys confirm, year after year, that the skills employers value most in the new graduates they hire are not technical, job-specific skills, but written and oral communication, problem-solving and critical thinking," the very skills and habits of mind the Liberal Arts major develops.

A Customized Curriculum

For a customized curriculum for a specific career path, the liberal arts program can be concentrated in one of the following areas:

• Theatre

The Educational Studies major is an individualized program designed with course scheduling flexibility for students with an interest in the field of education, focusing in areas other than formal classroom teaching and/or teacher licensure. 

This major has many flexible scheduling options including day, evening, blended, and online course offerings. We have locations on our main campus as well as at Cincinnati State. Additionally, online courses are delivered asynchronously (viewing instructional materials when you choose) or synchronously (with once a week zoom meetings).

Educational Studies Career Paths

Graduates with this degree may progress into careers in fields such as:

• Disability Services
• Family and Children Services
• Program Development (for corporations and nonprofits)
• Adult education
• Higher education
• Community outreach agencies
• Advocacy
• Hospice
• Museums 

The Social Work major is available in accelerated evening and weekend formats, convenient for the working adult. Students majoring in social work learn to appreciate the cultural and human diversity in society through classroom experience and field work.

Hands-On Experience

The field work experience (two days a week at a social agency) provides on-the-job learning experience under close supervision by both a faculty member and an agency professional, including:

• Mental health programs.
• Crisis centers for domestic violence.
• Homeless shelters.
• Other public service areas.

The CDCA Phase I and Phase II Certificate Requirement Course: Online gives students an option to become board-certified as a Chemical Dependency Counselor.

CDCA Program Length

• These fully online courses prepare students for the state of Ohio CDCA Phase I and Phase II certificate requirements.
• Courses are offered online in an eight-week format.

The CDCA Preliminary course, SWK 410, will begin in January and end in March. The CDCA Renewable course, SWK 420, begins in the Fall.

Note: The Office of Admission will not process undergraduate applications the week prior to class starting.

Students admitted by the deadline date, who want to register for classes the week before school starts, must already have their financial aid determined.

Applicants who have completed the equivalent of 12 semester hours of earned postsecondary coursework, at a college/university recognized by the USDE, and has a 2.0 cumulative GPA are normally admitted in good academic standing. High school credentials and test scores may also be reviewed.

Applicants must submit official transcripts from all schools attended.

Applicants with less than 12 earned semester hours of post-secondary credit from a college/university, recognized by the USDE, must also submit an official high school transcript or GED certificate.

If the previous school offers an electronic transcript submission option, request that your official transcripts be sent to admission@msj.edu.

Transfer credits are reviewed automatically when transferring from an institution accredited by one of the following:

• Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) Western
• Association of Schools and Colleges
• Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
• Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
• New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE)
• Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)
• Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges
• (SACSCOC)
• WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)

Credit earned at institutions with accreditation from other agencies will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. To be considered for transfer purposes, the accrediting agency must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the US Department of Education (USDE). Review/acceptance of transfer credit is not guaranteed but will be considered.

For applicants who have submitted an official high school transcript, have less than 12 semester hours of earned post-secondary credit at a college/university recognized by the USDE (or who have never attended college), Mount St. Joseph University conducts an individual, comprehensive review of each candidate’s credentials for admission, including but not limited to the following:

• College prep high school curriculum
• GPA
• Standardized test scores if applicable
• Evidence of leadership
• Extracurricular involvement

Each student is viewed as an individual, taking into consideration personal background, attributes and life circumstances. The Mount looks for students who'll contribute to, and benefit from, MSJ’s educational programs and activities.

When an *adult student meets the following:

*Four or more years have elapsed since graduating from high school at the time of enrollment.

• Has never attended college or has earned less than 12 semester hours of postsecondary college/university credit recognized by the USDE.

They also need to submit:

1. An offficial high school transcript or GED certificate.
2. A personal essay and
3. Meet with an Adult Admission Counselor

Once admitted to the University, the Office of Admission will conduct an official transcript evaluation. During this process we determine how previous college credit will transfer.

For an in-depth explanation of a transcript evaluation, students should contact the program department to meet with an academic advisor.

Students can request an unofficial transcript evaluation before applying. Simply contact one of the admission counselors listed below and submit your transcript.  We will tentatively evaluate your credits for transfer.

For reference of previously identified transfer equivalencies, check out the Transfer Equivalency System. Keep in mind that not all institutions and courses will be listed. Email your transcript, or unidentified courses, to an admission counselor for further transfer review.

Some key points to keep in mind during the transfer process:

• Coursework from regionally accredited institutions is transferable
• College-level coursework completed with a grade of "C" or higher is transferable
• Developmental coursework may be transferable
• AP (click here for AP credit consideration information) and Post-Secondary credits are transferable
• Quarter credits will transfer as two-thirds of a semester credit
• Undergraduate degree-seeking students must complete at least 30 credit hours as a Mount student before a degree can be conferred
