Accreditation Information
The Master of Speech-Language Pathology (MSLP) education program in speech-language pathology (residential) at Mount St. Joseph University is a Candidate for Accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700. Candidacy is a “preaccreditation” status with the CAA, awarded to developing or emerging programs for a maximum period of 5 years.
Candidate Program FAQs
- Students who meet the graduation requirements of a candidate program take the Praxis, apply for certification, and complete a Clinical Fellowship Year just like all other speech-language pathology programs; there is no special paperwork or approvals.
- Candidacy is the ‘pre-accreditation status’ through which all new programs develop.
- The CAA Accreditation Handbook (ASHA, 2022, p.83) specifically describes that, “Further, in accordance with Criterion for Recognition §602.23 [34 CFR 602.23(f)(2)], the U.S. Secretary of Education considers all credits and degrees earned and issued by a program holding candidacy status with the CAA to being from an accredited program since the CAA is a recognized accrediting agency.” [italics added]
