The Mount is committed to providing students with access to higher education regardless of their financial background. Without the support of annual fund donors, students like Valeria Obregon Guillermo, Class of 2023, would not have been able to pursue their education at the Mount.
Valeria was born in Mexico but moved back and forth between the United States and Mexico for her education. After graduating high school, Valeria moved to Texas to attend community college, and it was through the Honor Society on campus that she discovered Mount St. Joseph University for the first time.
As she prepared to transfer from a community college in Texas, Valeria looked at universities all over the United States in pursuit of completing her degree in finance. She took an entire semester to narrow down the list of universities to only five options, and the Mount was one of them.
Valeria chose Mount St. Joseph University because she wanted to create professional relationships with her professors and personal relationships with other students on campus—something that might not have been possible at a larger institution. One main reason she chose the Mount was that it offered her the most competitive scholarship for her GPA compared to other universities, and it offered a major in Financial Economics along with the 4+1 MBA program.
With the Mount’s help, Valeria was able to relieve the financial burden of attending college. Without the resources and opportunities available to MSJ students, Valeria and others like her would not have been able to complete their educational journey. The Career Center, the Writing Center, and the Wellness Center are just a few of the support systems in place to help students reach their academic goals.
Now that she has received her MBA from Mount St. Joseph University, Valeria is working in the financial sector. Thanks to generous donors like you, students like Valeria, and many others, can reach new heights through their Mount education.
