American Studies encourages you to examine American thought and culture. Film, history, and literature constitute the core of this multidisciplinary minor, providing students with a broad and dynamic exploration of the American experience. Through these core areas, students examine how cultural, historical, and social developments in the United States have been interpreted and expressed across different forms of storytelling and scholarship. By analyzing films, literary works, and historical perspectives, students gain a deeper understanding of the people, events, and ideas that have shaped American identity and culture.

For the elective component, students may choose courses in their areas of interest, provided the coursework emphasizes the American experience. These electives allow students to further explore topics such as culture, society, politics, and artistic expression within the United States from a variety of academic perspectives. Courses with an emphasis on the American experience will be identified in each semester’s or term’s Class Schedule, helping students easily select options that align with the focus of the minor.
