Liberal Arts Faculty Participates in the MSJ 5K
Why sleep in on a fall Saturday morning when you could wake up early and run five kilometers?
Three members of the Mount’s Liberal Arts Department did just that Sept. 14, joining other faculty, staff, students and friends for the 7th Annual MSJ 5K. They were Dr. Chris Davidson, Dr. Elizabeth Mason and Dr. Kyle Schenkewitz.
“It was harder for me this year, compared to last year,” admits Davidson, assistant professor of philosophy. “Good to see everyone out, cheering each other on, outside of/in addition to classroom activities.”
For assistant professor of religious studies Schenkewitz, it was “meaningful for us to cross campus, run to the Sisters of Charity Motherhouse and cemetery and back again. It is another reminder that whatever we achieve at MSJ depends on the legacy we’ve received from the Sisters across the street.”
Mason invited her 84-year-old father and 12-year-old son to join her.
“My son, Zack, wanted to run, and my dad wanted to finish,” said the professor of English. “I wanted to bring both my boys home safely.”
“All three of us put one foot in front of the other. It was a reminder that we do fun things, beautiful things and hard things in the same way: one step at a time.”
