School of Education Completers Celebration
Tuesday April 14, 2026 (tentative), 5:30 p.m. in the Mater Dei Chapel (Ceremony) & 6 p.m. in the Seton Center Lobby (light refreshments)

- Oak Tree Ceremony: Upon entry into the School of Education, students are given a wooden acorn in a small ceremony indicating the potential they have as budding educators. At this completers’ ceremony, students are given a small oak tree sapling that they can plant is some special place. The oak tree sapling represents how far the student has come since the acorn they received earlier in their program, and the growth that is still yet to come as an educator in the field.

Doctor of Physical Therapy Convocation Ceremony
Thursday May 7, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. in the University Theatre
- Intended audience (students, families, faculty/staff, etc.): attendees include DPT 2026 Cohort, families, DPT faculty and staff, dean School of Health Sciences, Provost, President

- The DPT students are doctorly prepared, they get hooded by their faculty advisor and the program chair during the ceremony, physical therapy community awards are presented to physical therapists who have excelled in areas such as research, administration, clinical education instruction and as alumni, student awards are presented to students/graduates who have excelled in academic endeavors, community service, and clinical education performance.

- The Lavender Graduation ceremony was created by Dr. Ronni Sanlo to honor and acknowledge the achievements of LGBTQ+ graduates. The first Lavender Graduation ceremony was held at the University of Michigan in 1995. Today, over 200 colleges and universities have Lavender Graduation ceremonies for their students.
