Following acceptance in to the program and before matriculation, prospective students are responsible for:
- Completion of a criminal background check and drug screen testing. This is completed at the student’s expense following registration on the CastleBranch website and is estimated to cost $210.00
- Providing proof of immunization status. The required immunizations are consistent with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations for health care workers available at: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/adults/rec-vac/hcw.html There may be additional expense for obtaining required immunizations or laboratory testing to document immunity.
- Obtaining a medical screening examination from a qualified health care professional attesting that the student meets the Technical Standards for Physician Assistant students with reasonable accommodation, if necessary. A copy of the Standards, and the required form, are available on the program website’s homepage.
- Providing proof of health insurance. Documentation is uploaded to the CastleBranch website. Mount St. Joseph University requires that all full time students are automatically enrolled in the Anthem Student Advantage medical plan unless adequate proof of coverage is provided. More information can be found here.
*Miscellaneous expenses and supplies covers professional, compliance, and academic supplies essential for the program's successful completion. These non-tuition costs include, but are not limited to: purchasing necessary technology (computer), acquiring required textbooks, annual maintenance fees for Castlebranch compliance (covering mandatory drug screens, background checks, flu vaccination, and tuberculosis testing), and purchasing professional attire suitable for clinical settings.
Students should expect to complete up to three Supervised Clinical Practice Experiences (SCPEs) at clinical sites located outside the immediate Cincinnati area. For the purpose of this requirement, travel is defined as a one-way commute exceeding sixty (60) miles from the Mount St. Joseph University campus. Students are fully responsible for all expenses associated with these distant rotations, including housing, travel, and miscellaneous living costs. While these costs vary significantly by location and duration, students should budget an estimated $3,000 per distant rotation to cover these non-tuition expenses.
Students are strongly discouraged from working during the program to ensure availability for all program requirements, especially during the clinical year when students will be required to work the schedule of their preceptors. See the work policy for further details.
All Tuition and Fees described are subject to approval by the University’s Board of Trustees.
