Meet Nick Geraci, Biology ‘02, Now a Senior Scientist in Computational Biology at EMD Serono (Merck KGaA Healthcare)

nick geraci

Since graduating from Mount St. Joseph University, Nick has navigated a winding road through academia and industry across seven states before finding his place at the intersection of bioinformatics, immunology, and neuroscience. Along the way, he earned an MS in Entomology (Purdue University) and a PhD in Biological Sciences (University of Notre Dame) focused on tropical infectious diseases.

Now working remotely and settled in a quiet village in the White Mountains of New England (where even Delhi feels like a metropolis!), he's built an accomplished career using big data to answer questions at the molecular level, and helping turn complex biological puzzles into real-world medical breakthroughs.

Lessons from the journey?

1) The path to success isn’t always direct, and that’s okay.
2) Big data is worthless without the right question.

3) Everything is connected -- doing good science and acting with kindness truly matter.

Advice to future scientists? “Stay curious, embrace challenges, and never stop learning—you never know where the road (or the research) will take you!”

EMD Serono offers graduate co-ops and full-time roles in bioinformatics, immunology, and neuroscience, with occasional opportunities for bachelor-level technicians.

Want to follow in his footsteps? It all starts with a degree from Mount St. Joseph University's Department of Biomedical and Natural Sciences! We connect students with co-op opportunities at top employers like Q Labs, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and more, giving them real-world experience before graduation.
